Room with a View, Vancouver: River Rock

In October 2011, River Rock added a second five-story hotel tower to its property, thereby doubling the occupancy. With free hotel parking, free Wifi, comfy Serta Sleeper mattresses, in-room Nespresso coffee makers and adjacent casino, the Hotel at River Rock is a welcome addition to the Four Diamond Resort.

Rooms come in a choice of either two queen- or one king-size bed, with 42-inch flat screen LCD TVs, luxurious bathrobes, and room to get some work done at desktops with back-friendly chairs. Venture out of the room to soak in the Jacuzzi, or ride on the 70-foot rainforest themed waterslide. Poolside, there’s lounging chairs that you can move outside to catch some sun if the weather cooperating and the fitness center has a variety of bikes, treadmills, cross-training machines and weights. There’s also a waterfront boulevard for strolling.

The property contains a conference and event space and six restaurants, bars and lounges, with fare ranging from high-end to food court. Be sure to book dinner at Tramonto, a fine dining restaurant that offers fantastic service, southern Italian cuisine using fresh local ingredients, a private dining area for up to 18 guests and a fully-stocked wine cellar. The kid-friendly buffet, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, is also an option if you’ve got a variety of taste buds to please.

After you’ve dined there’s plenty a game to win (or, alas, lose). River Rock is Western Canada’s biggest casino, with 1,000 slots, poker tables, VIP rooms, horse-racing stakes and 24-hour action. Over at the show lounge, well-known acts such as Bob Sagat, Tony Bennett, Bob Newhart and Joan Rivers can be seen.

Absolute Spa has a location at the River Rock, offering complete spa services with everything from facials to therapeutic massage and hydrotherapy. With 6 private treatment rooms and a couples suite, this could be the perfect add on to a romantic weekend getaway.

River Rock Casino Resort is close to the airport, so next time you’ve got an early flight, why not extend the vacation and stay, dine and play for just one more day.
