Take The Chill Off With These Scotch Whisky Cocktails

One of the best ways to end a cool winter’s day is by meeting friends and colleagues for happy hour. Drinking the right cocktail is also a great way to relax those hard-working muscles after a long day on the ski slopes or snow blowing the driveway.

If you’re looking for some cocktail inspiration, consider Dewar’s 12. The spirit has notes of honey, candy apples, fudge and subtle vanilla. It’s great for mixed drinks or as a holiday gift.

Here are some ways to incorporate the scotch whisky in some tasty drinks:

Warm winter whisky cocktail (similar to a whisky hot toddy)

1.5 parts Dewar’s 12 warmed in a tea kettle with chamomile tea

1 part honey syrup and lemon juice

Lemon peel for garnish

Method: Serve in a mug or warm cocktail glass and garnish with lemon peel.

Highland Holiday Collins

1.5 parts Dewar’s 12

1 part St-Germain

.5 part lemon juice

1 part fever tree ginger beer

Lemon wheel and bee pollen for garnish

Method: Serve over ice in a Collins glass and garnish with lemon wheel and bee pollen.

Dewar’s Dramble

50 ml Dewar’s 12- or 15-year-old

25 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice

12 ml sugar syrup (2:1 ratio – sugar: water)

10 ml crème de mûre

Blackberry for garnish

Method: Add scotch, lemon juice, and syrup to the glass. Fill with crushed ice and stir/swizzle. Top with more crushed ice and drizzle crème demure on top. Garnish with a fresh blackberry.

Whiskey and Coconut

1 parts Dewar’s 12-Year

3 parts coconut water

Lime wedge for garnish

Method: Fill a highball glass with ice, add scotch and top with coconut water. Stir and garnish with lime.

Bobby Burns (named after famous Scottish poet Robert Burns)

2 parts Dewar’s 12-Year

1 part Martini & Rossi sweet vermouth

1 bar spoon of bénédictine

Orange peel for garnish

Method: Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and add ice. Stir and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with orange peel.
