Making Cars with 3D Printers

For a long time, 3D printing was something for hobbyists, but if Jim Kor has his way, it will be the future of car manufacturing.

His latest creation, the Urbee 2, is proof that this is possible, all while emphasising maximum miles per gallon and lightweight construction.

Still in the prototype stage, the Urbee 2 consists of 50 printed pieces of plastic with a metal chassis and engine. Saftey doesn’t take a backseat, either. Kor is aiming for a “race car” safety standard, saying “We want this car to pass the tech inspection at Le Mans.”

Best of luck, Kor.
