Introducing Forty Creek Spike Honey Spiced and Canadian Club Maple Whisky. The Forty Creek Spike Honey Spiced is based on Forty Creek Barrel Select, though this version has a strong honey note, buoyed with additional vanilla and cinnamon. Canadian Club Maple Whisky, on the other hand, takes regular Canadian Club—a smooth, sweet whisky of toffee and caramel—and adds a strong maple note.
So, now that you have your flavoured whisky in hand, what do you do with it? You have three choices: neat, highball, or cocktail.
Neat is self-explanatory. Procure glass, add whisky, and enjoy! Ice will water it down, but also make it more fragrant.
When it comes to highballs, the classic companion to Canadian whisky is ginger ale—but not one will get upset if you pour a diet coke. Drink what you like. If you happen to really, really like ginger, by the way, ditch the ginger ale and use cloudy, Jamaica-style ginger beer.
Now, cocktails. Canadian whisky is light, smooth, and an ideal candidate for cocktailing. Here are a couple of drinks to get you started.
Maple Cider
Ingredients
1.5 oz. Canadian Club Maple Whisky
2 oz. apple cider
hot water
butter
Directions
Pour whisky and apple cider into a shaker. Dry shake (i.e., without ice) whisky and cider and pour into a heat-proof mug. Top with hot water. Garnish with a half pat of butter.
Spike Honey Spiced Iced Tea
Ingredients
1 oz. Forty Creek Spike Honey Spiced Whisky
4 oz. chilled orange pekoe tea
1 teaspoon of sugar
Directions
Prepare 4 oz. of orange pekoe tea, add sugar and stir to dissolve. Chill. Fill a tall glass with ice. Add 1 oz. Forty Creek Spike Honey Spiced, add chilled orange pekoe tea. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
