SPONSORED American Express “Room For Thought” Campaign Winners Announced

Room For Thought is brought to you by American Express Canada.

The public votes are in — nearly 3,200 of them — and three winners in the American Express “Room For Thought” campaign have been selected to turn their idea into an interactive reality. From November 8th to the 22nd, their displays will be showcased in rotation at Toronto’s Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. Each display will be open to the public for three days before the next one is brought to life.

Here are the winners in each category:

COMMUNITY
Lisa Shanker, “Survivor Garden”

A therapeutic space for people recovering from serious illnesses, Lisa Shanker’s “Survivor Garden” will be designed and built with the help of Free the Children founders Marc and Craig Kielburger. “It’s inspiring to us that such a heartfelt idea has been selected by the public,” says Craig. “The concept of building a space where people can nurture themselves through gardening is one that no doubt will make a big difference in the community.”

TRAVEL/ADVENTURE
Evan Malach, “The Second Chance Travel Co-op”
Giving underprivileged children the opportunity to travel the globe, Evan Malach’s “The Second Chance Travel Co-op” will be developed with renowned globetrotter (and Survivorman) Les Stroud as mentor. “The travel category had some fantastic submissions, but The Second Chance Travel Co-op really clicked with voters,” says Stroud. “Evan has an opportunity to tell a really unique story; I’m looking forward to helping him in any way I can.”

MUSIC
Andrew Huang, “Ghost II”
A uniquely presented and fully interactive musical experience — in fact, a real-time audio-visual presentation — Andrew Huang’s “Ghost II” will be fine-tuned with Metric front woman Emily Haines. “Ghost II is an innovative and exciting idea that looks at music in a new way, and that has clearly captured the imaginations of voters,” says Haines. “I’m looking forward to working with Andrew to bring the concept to the next level.”
