Vancouver’s Best Summertime Adventure Activities

Add some excitement to those lazy, hazy days of summer. Here, our favourite places to get a dose of adrenaline in Vancouver.

Ziplining at Grouse Mountain
Spend two hours enjoying a bird’s eye view of Grouse Mountain. The five-line circuit shows off the steep canyon, thick old-growth forest and pristine Blue Grouse Lake. Top speeds hit 80 km/h as you blast over the peak. $105 including Skyride, 604-980-9311.

Kiteboarding at Squamish Spit
If you’re staring longingly at your dusty snowboard, snap out of it, and take group or solo lessons at Vancouver Kiteboarding School. Within several hours, you’ll be harnessing the power of the wind and soaring over the sea. 604-616-5350.

Whitewater Rafting in the Fraser Canyon
Skip the rippers and rip down the rapids for the next bachelor party. Two and a half hours outside of the city, REO Rafting Resort offers access to six rivers, massages at the Adventure Spa and campfire entertainment with local bands. 604-461-7238.

Jetskiing in the Harbour
Turn heads in the city harbour before jetting out to sea on a Jetski or Sea-doo which you can rent from Vancouver Water Adventures. It’s like a motorcycle without the pesky helmet. 750 Pacific Blvd., 604-736-5155.

Paddleboard in English Bay
You’ve seen them cruising close to shore in growing numbers this summer. Paddleboarding is the hot, new thing, and while it may look slow and slippery, it’s a great way to check out the scenery on the beach and get a core workout. Rent a board at Ecomarine. $15/hour. 1700 Beach Ave., 604-689-7575.
