Job website Indeed recently revealed the 25 top-rated workplaces in Canada based on company reviews and factors such as work-life balance, salary/benefits, job security and advancement, and management and culture.
Topping the list is luxury hospitality brand Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, which oversees hotels such as Chateau Frontenac in Quebec and the Fairmont Banff Springs. It’s the first time the company has been recognized in Indeed’s national ranking.
French hospitality company AccorHotels has owned Fairmont Hotels & Resorts since 2016 and has a very strong corporate culture, according to Jodi Kasten, managing director at Indeed Canada. She told HuffPost Canada that Fairmont is a company that enables entry-level employees to advance through the ranks—something that’s becoming increasingly rare. She also noted that employees feel comfortable and “embraced” in the work environment.
“The 25 organizations on our list are considered among the best places to work and have worked hard to listen to the specific needs of their employees to provide an outstanding experience through strategic and thoughtful workplace programs,” Kasten said.
Construction company Ledcor landed the second spot on this year’s list. Last year, it was number 16. 2017’s number-one honoree, RBC, is now listed at number six.
Nearly half of the companies in 2018’s list were also featured in 2017. Newcomers include American Express, pharmaceutical corporation Apotex, and PepsiCo.
Kasten noted that low unemployment combined with a tight labour market has resulted in a lot of competition among recruiters.
“In order to stand out to job seekers, companies are continuing to evolve their overall employee experience in the hopes of attracting and retaining top talent for their open positions,” Jodi Kasten noted.
