Heavy metal band Metallica is teaming up with Nixon on a collection of custom-made watches featuring the group’s albums on the faces of the timepieces. The band noted that it was “stoked” to announce the partnership with one of the world’s premier lifestyle watch companies.
Nixon has previously collaborated with skateboarder Tony Hawk, surfers John John Florence and Leila Hurst and many others. The watch brand has also created lines featuring Star Wars & Disney characters.
“They are the perfect partner for us… independent and unique, with a focus on creativity and quality, and we’ve been looking forward to working with them again since our first experience back in 2010 when we teamed up for a series of limited edition rocker watches using old guitar straps and leather jackets from various ‘Tallica members to create watch bands (with proceeds going to the Musicians Assistance Program),” Metallica said in a statement.
There are eight different models in the collection, including the Corporal SS, Sentry Leather, Time Teller and 51-30, which start at US$125. The 51-30 Tide “Sanitarium” includes a custom bezel with “prison bar” cage, “insane/sane?” subdial and padded cell backing for $750.
The watches are available for pre-order at Metallica.com and the European Store. Buy them in stores and online at Nixon.com beginning November 5.
Metallica recently revamped its official website, which now features new announcements, products, and other information in anticipation of its WorldWired tour in North America, which kicks off on Sept. 2 in Madison, Wisc. Upcoming shows in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Sept. 13) and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Sept. 15) are sold out.
