You’ve probably had this problem before – you’re taking a run or walk on the beach, and you have nowhere to stash your keys or other personal items. Carrying a bag is too bulky, and a fanny pack is not an option (even though they’re supposedly making a comeback).
Nike has a solution. They created the Benassi JDI Fanny Pack slides that feature a small zippered pouch that combats the problem. Just unzip and pack your small items in a tiny pocket on top of your foot.
The sandals are lightweight with a soft foam sole. They are available in three colours and feature the brand’s signature check mark. They cost $50US but are currently sold out, signalling that there’s a big demand for them.
The men’s slides are perfect for summer outings. They’re probably particularly useful if you don’t have any pockets in your shorts.
The footwear takes its inspiration from the ‘90s when people commonly wore fanny packs around their waists to carry essential items such as wallets, Chapstick, and Sony Walkman’s.
Some celebs have been rocking fanny packs all along. Matthew McConaughey famously made headlines in 2014 for wearing one at a Boston Red Sox game. When asked by reporter Julia Morales about the throwback accessory, he noted: “I’m not afraid of the fanny pack. You gotta kind of put it on the side to make it look a little, not as nerdy. But still, practicality wins out. I’ve got so much gear in here that I don’t want in my pockets.”
After Morales confessed to having her own fanny pack, the actor commented excitedly, “That sounds cool! They’re coming back. They’re on their way back, some decade from now.”
Even celebs such as Beyonce aren’t afraid to step out in fanny packs. She’s been wearing them for years in a series of fashionable colours and materials.
While people may be hesitant to re-embrace the fanny pack trend, having one on a shoe is not only less intimidating but also much more comfortable. Unfortunately, you will have to wait until Nike restocks before getting your feet in some comfy fanny pack slides as they’re completely sold out.
