Shawn Mendes, French artist Hubert Lenoir, The Weeknd and newcomer Bulow are some of the leading nominees at the upcoming Juno Awards. Other artists with multiple nominations include Arkells, Michael Buble, The Weeknd, Loud Luxury and Alessia Cara.
Mendes is nominated in six of the biggest categories including Artist of the Year where he’s up against Alessia Cara, Michael Buble, The Weeknd and Tory Lanez. He’s also vying for the Juno Fan Choice Award with Cara, Bulow, Avril Lavigne, Elijah Woods X Jamie Fine, Killy, Nav, The Weeknd and Loud Luxury.
Album of the Year nominees include; Shawn Mendes (Shawn Mendes), Hubert Lenoir (Darlene), Jann Arden (These Are The Days), Three Days Grace (Outsider) and The Weeknd (My Dear Melancholy.). The same offerings from Mendes and Lenoir are also up for Pop Album of the Year alongside Bulow (Damaged), Chromeo (Head Over Heels) and Tyler Shaw (Intuition).
Meanwhile Mendes, who is also in the Songwriter of the Year category, sees “In My Blood” up for Single of the Year along with Bulow (“Not A Love Song”), Alessia Cara (“Growing Pains), Loud Luxury (“Loud”) and The Weeknd featuring Kendrick Lamar (“Pray For Me”).
The Rock Album of the Year nominees are; Arkells (Rally Cry), Monster Truck (True Rockers), The Sheepdogs (Changing Colours), The Trews (Civilianaires) and Three Days Grace (Outsider). Arkells, Three Days Grace and The Sheepdogs are all nominated for Group of the Year with Chromeo and Metric rounding out the list.
One category featuring Bulow but none of the other leading nominees is Breakthrough Artist of the Year where Grandson, Killy, Meghan Patrick and Johnny Orlando are vying for the award.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was not seeing Drake being nominated in any categories. But because the artist didn’t submit his work for nomination Juno organizers had no control over the omission.
The International Album of the Year sees Camila Cabello (Camila), Cardi B (Invasion Of Privacy), Post Malone (Beerbongs & Bentleys), Maroon 5 (Red Pill Blues) and Travis Scott (Astroworld) up to take home the award.
A complete list of the nominees and categories is available on the Junos official Twitter account (@TheJUNOAwards) or the official awards site (http://junoawards.ca/nominees)
Other special awards will be handed out. Acclaimed producer and songwriter David Foster will receive the 2019 Humanitarian Award while Corey Hart will be inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Performers confirmed thus far include Hart, Bulow and London area band Loud Luxury
The Juno Awards, which will be hosted by Sarah McLachlan, take place this year at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario with the televised portion airing on CBC March 17.
