These Vehicles Are Most Apt To Last 200,000 Miles

If you want a dependable vehicle that will keep running for many years, consider purchasing a full-size SUV. They are more likely to reach 200,000 miles or more compared to other vehicles, according to a new study by iSeeCars.com.

The automotive research firm examined more than 13.8 million vehicles sold in 2018 to determine which ones are most likely to reach that mileage milestone. Nine of the top 14 are SUVs.

Number one on the list is the Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV. Over seven percent of its vehicles reach 200,000 miles. Full-size vehicles like the Sequoia are durable and known for their reliability. Other Toyotas on the list are the 4Runner midsize SUV (number five) and the midsize Toyota Highlander Hybrid (number seven).

Ly noted that one downside is SUVs typically have poorer gas mileage. However, the Highlander Hybrid has fairly decent fuel economy.

The remaining full-size SUVs on the list are American brands: the Chevrolet Suburban (number two), Ford Expedition (number three), GMC Yukon XL (number four), Chevrolet Tahoe (number six), GMC Yukon (number nine) and Lincoln Navigator (number 14).

“All manufactured by General Motors, the Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, and Tahoe share the same platform and many of the same parts, which could explain why these popular family vehicles have similar track records for lasting at least 200,000 miles,” company CEO Phong Ly commented. “Similarly, the Expedition and the lone luxury car on the list, the Navigator, also share the same manufacturer and are similar vehicles despite their different marques.”

The list also includes three pickup trucks: the Honda Ridgeline (number eight), Toyota Tacoma (number 10), and the Toyota Tundra (number 11). The Ridgeline is known for its reliability, while the Tacoma and Tundra are “known for being indestructible,” Ly pointed out, adding, “they are much more likely than the average vehicle to reach the 200,000-mile mark.”

The sole sedan on the list is the Toyota Avalon, which scores well in reliability. The list also features one minivan—the Honda Odyssey.

According to company Ly, if you properly maintain and care for the right vehicle, it has the ability to reach 200,000 miles.
