LUMOback Posture Sensor

Got back pain? Unless you’re stressed about working for the Feds, like Big Pussy Bonpensiero, chances are poor posture’s to blame. Poor posture can be exacerbated by, say, slouching at a keyboard for hours on end.

LUMOback ($149) aims to fix that. It’s a sensor that straps to the small of your back and vibrates when it detects you slouching from your lower back. It also connects to an iDevice (iPhone 4S, 5, iPad 3, 4, and iPod Touch 4) and an app keeps track of how well you’re doing.

Of course, not all back problems come from poor posture originating at the small of the back; just most. That’s why the company is currently developing products that bad posture isolated in the upper back and neck. For now, we’ll settle for a vibrating reminder to sit up straight.
