Now that you have your 3D printer, it’s time for a 3D scanner. The MakerBot Digitizer ($1,400) scans objects, allowing you to upload the design files into your computer, where you can then modify them and then use your aforementioned 3D printer to make a bunch of copies. So far, this is the closest we’ve come to Star Trek replicator technology. We’re holding out for when 3D printing becomes so good that we can print documents, hassle-free. That’ll be a cool day.
