3-D printing may hold the key to effective construction of habitats on the Moon.
“Terrestrial 3D printing technology has produced entire structures,” said Laurent Pambaguian, heading the project for ESA.
The printer uses a simulated sand-like lunar material which is transformed into a solid not unlike stone
Current printing technology builds at a rate of about 2 meters per hour while future designs are expected to reach 3.5m/h, completing an entire building in a week and an entire CityPlace-esque proto-slum in under six months.
