Review: Bröö

Believe it or not, washing your hair with beer has been something of a folk remedy at least since harmless but tedious advice has been passed around the internet. However, we don’t want to reduce beer in a saucepan for half an hour only to mix it with a shampoo that you need to refrigerate. We’ll let someone else do the manufacturing.

Which brings us to Bröö. Bröö has a range of paired shampoos and conditioners, each designed for a different effect. Their American pale ale volumizes, is made with extra protein for a strengthening effect, and smells of ginger and citrus. Their porter hydrates, is blended with shea butter, and smells of vanilla and toffee. Finally, their India pale ale smooths out frizzy hair, is blended with almond oil, and smells of cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom.

Bröö also has the ethical consumer in mind. Their products are made without solvents, colours, dyes, phthalates, silicones, synthetic fragrances, harsh preservatives, parabens, sodium chloride, or petrochemicals. Conversely, they use non-GMO wheat and are renewable, biodegradable, vegan, cruelty-free, pH-balanced, colour-friendly, and sustainable. We also suspect that Bröö tips well and calls its mother every week.

So, brass tacks: we’ve been using Bröö for a week, and we’re happy to report that each of their shampoos and conditioners works as advertised, even in muggy Toronto weather. Also, importantly, they won’t cause you to smell like a brewery.
