Calgary’s Best Public Workspaces, Part 2

We recently rounded up our favourite makeshift offices around town – places that scarcely resemble offices, but offer us everything we need: wireless Internet and, usually, great coffee. Turns out lots of spots fit the bill in Calgary, and so today we present the sequel: Five more of the best places in Calgary to work remotely.

DeVille Luxury Coffee and Pastries
Sip one of the city’s finest lattes, and indulge in chocolate-dipped shortbread or a “life-changing” tuna sandwich. Come day’s end, reward yourself with wine, cheese and charcuterie. #200 – 100 7 Ave. S.W. 403-452-7777; #807 1 St. S.W. 403-263-0884.

W.R. Castell Library
Escape the hubbub of downtown in this silent six-storey refuge. Find your favourite nook to settle in to some serious work. 616 MacLeod Trail S.E. 403-263-0884.

Purple Perk Coffee Market
Urban Mission-ites connect in this comfy, bustling neighbourhood hangout. The chocolate cake, sliced large, is a must – as are the homemade chips. But go early (or late): There’s no Wi-Fi here from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 2212 4 St. S.W. 403-244-1300.

Southcentre Mall
Yes, it’s a mall. But if you head to the second level, near the Guess store, you’ll find bright, natural light, comfy soft-seating and efficient Wi-Fi. Plus, obvious material rewards surround you if you have a particularly productive day. 100 Anderson Rd. S.E. 403-271-7670.

Steeps the Urban Tea House
Too many cups of coffee can make the best of us a bit batty. Instead, opt for a pot of Roobios and a slice of carrot cake in this Zen-like tea house, and get working. 880 16 Ave. S.W. 403-209-0076.
