The Carnivore Gift List

A wise man once said you don’t win friends with salad. We couldn’t agree more, so here are seven things for the carnivore in your life.

Damien’s Handmade Sauces

What’s grilled chicken without a variety of delicious sauces? Damien’s Handmade Sauces are blended without additives or preservatives; just delicious, fresh ingredients. Their Hotel Oscar Tango is made with vinegar, june plums, habaneros, garlic, and fresh herbs, and it’s pretty damn hot. Their Lima Zulu, by contrast, brings limes to the party. It’s sweeter and brighter; we eat it on our breakfast corn beef hash.

Carnivore Club

Carnivore Club may be the best club going. You sign up, they send you a box of cured meats every month. What could be greater? Past goodies have included Zernistaya Dry Salami from Barilo’s Fine Sausages, Biltong from Florence Meats, and Chorizo Droewors from Braaitime. Once again: cured meat in your mail every month. It’s amazing.

Table Mountain Curing Giftbox

Table Mountain Curing makes some of the most unique jerky in Canada. It’s halfway between South African biltong and regular North American smoked jerky. The result is dry but surprisingly tender.

Gunpowder Finishing Salt

What goes into gunpowder? Well, it’s a base of Hawaiian volcanic salt, but it also has chipotle, black pepper, garlic, onion, sumac, and some secret stuff we can’t tell you about because they won’t tell us. Anyway, it’s equal parts tangy and smoky.

Revolution Grill

Want to grill but lack a backyard, porch, balcony, or other spot for a charcoal or gas grill? Then you’d better go electric. The Revolution Grill is perfect for condo dwellers who won’t give up on steak.

Fleishers Jerky Crafting Kit

Want to make jerky but don’t know how? This kit will get you started. You just supply the beef and an oven, and this kit does the rest. Includes a pamphlet, two non-stick drying screens, two spice blends, and a cork oven door stopper.

Praise the Pig

Praise the pig indeed. This cookbook includes dozens of recipes for everything from shoulders to loins to sausages. Oh, and there’s a bacon section. Because of course there is.
