If last week’s XX on XY inspired you to plan the perfect romantic getaway, you must now face a new question: Where to go? Paris is lovely, but if your private jet’s in the shop, consider one of these options, the best romantic getaways within a couple hours of Toronto.
Stratford
A foodie haven (try The Old Prune) and an architectural wonder, Startford maintains more pre-1940 buildings than any other Ontario town. The theatre’s not bad, either.
STAY: Built in 1870, the Stewart House Inn offers small-town charm and big-city luxury. Reserve the Regency Room and never leave the king-sized canopy bed. From $239/night
Elora
Enjoy the waterfalls without the wax museums in this Niagara region village, also home to the Elora Gorge — spectacular limestone cliffs that descend into the Grand and Irvine rivers.
STAY: Overlooking the Gorge, the Elora Mill Inn [pictured], a converted 19th century mill, offers a “Wine Lovers’ Indulgence Weekend” package, complete with five-course meal and wine pairings. From $149/night
Cambridge
The area surrounding Cambridge is a hub for such pastoral pleasures as horseback riding, cycling and golf.
STAY: Langdon Hall, a Relais & Chateaux hotel, boasts a renowned spa (try the De-Stressing 100-jet hydrotherapy bath) and a restaurant rated among Canada’s best. From $329/night
Creemore
Home to a small, thriving arts community, centered at the Mad & Noisy Gallery, and, of course, the always-welcoming Creemore Springs Brewery.
STAY: Creemore House Inn, where you can expect fluffy duvets, Egyptian cotton sheets and fresh-baked treats. From $180/night

Good timing and useful information. Having just come back from a wedding in Collingwood last weekend, would have been nice to have stayed @ Creemore. Too many dumpy places up that way.
Elora is northwest of Guelph, hardly the “Niagara region”. Otherwise a great suggestion, though.
