It isn’t uncommon in the Caribbean to sip rum the same way we sip whisky: neat or with a couple of rocks, any premium rum can be treated the same way as delicious single malt. If, however, you’ve got your heart set on a cocktail, try out our recipe for Planter’s Punch, one of the oldest rum cocktails around.
You’ll need:
- Juice from one fresh lime (if you use a premium spirit, insist on premium ingredients)
- A couple of shakes of Demerara sugar
- Two dashes of Angostura bitters
- Two shots of aged rum (for example, Appleton Estate’s V/X, or one of their older rums)
Stir it all together in a tall glass with ice, add an extra dash of bitters over the top, and garnish with fresh mint and lime.
