It isn’t that we dislike the traditional old fashioned—in fact, come winter, we’ll be back on the whisky wagon—but there’s no reason not to change it up now and again. Rum is a versatile spirit, and light amber rum like Brugal and make a cocktail swing sweet or dry. For a sweeter version of this cocktail, use orange bitters instead of Angostura and an orange twist or maraschino cherry as a garnish.
Ingredients
1 cube sugar
2 or 3 dashes Angostura bitters
Twist lemon peel
2 or 3 ice cubes
2 oz. Brugal añejo
Directions
Place the sugar cube in an old-fashioned glass and wet with bitters. Add lemon peel, ice cubes, and rum. Stir.
