When Mike Schultz lost a leg in a 2008 snowmobile accident, he quickly discovered that available prosthetic limbs wouldn’t be good enough to allow him to compete in the X Games.
So, he built his own.
Dubbed the “Moto Knee,” Schultz donned his new appendage a scant seven months after losing his leg. Then he won a bunch of medals.
Schultz also founded a business called Biodapt, which manufactures prosthetics for people looking to compete in high action sports.
A sneak peek for the film Metal and Flesh aired last September in anticipation of it’s 2013 release. Produced by Edge Factor, it wants to inspire the next generation of skilled crafters to get back outside and lose their other leg.
