We know what you’re thinking: how the hell does anyone possibly determine the “greatest athlete of all time?”
Since this is ESPN, you might assume that the answer is yelling, and you’re close: it’s actually magic.
That’s right. Initially, it was voting. Internet people voted in the top sixteen, and now ESPN has arranged them into a bracket (see below). Starting on February 17, John Brenkus, who’s apparently some guy that works for ESPN will pick winner “based on a series of metrics including speed, strength, durability, reaction time, and much more”.
Apparently, comparing athletes from completely different sports who played in completely different eras is not only possible, it has the same believability as the hit TV show Deadliest Warrior.
