True, having fish nibble the dead skin off your tootsies is no longer legal in British Columbia. Nonetheless, numerous spas continue to offer unique experiences in and around Vancouver. Whether you want to soak and relax in some baths, fancy up your eyes, or treat your tired feet to the ultimate in relaxation, there’s a place that will do it, and do it well.
Footworks Relaxology (pictured)
In Kitsilano, those with weary feet head to Footworks to rejuvenate. Using reflexology to restore balance through the body by touching pressure points, this spa specializes in foot massage (full body is also available, should you need a complete overhaul). All sessions include a soak in a warm bowl full of river rocks with their proprietary healing salts, as well as a shoulder massage during soaking. You can add in a foot scrub for $7 and essential oil treatment for $3. 25 minutes for $25 and 50 minutes for $39. 2992 West Broadway, 604-730-2992
JJ Spa Plus
Koreans flock to bath houses in their home country, which offer soaks, body scrubs and water park facilities where you can even eat during treatment. Located in Coquitlam, JJ Spa Plus is the first Korean spa in Canada. With same-sex facilities, most shower and then go near-naked through steam rooms filled with salt, yellow earth or charcoal to promote healing, or choose the dry sauna. There are hot tubs for additional soaking, and scrubs and massages are offered for only $40 hour. Entry is $15 for adults and includes the use of steam, sauna and hot tubs. 3000 Christmas Way, 604-552-1048
Miraj Hammam Spa
The Hammam is a place of cleansing and healing for body and soul. Miraj Hammam offers traditional Middle Eastern treatments such as Hammam and Gommage, which involve a mist and steam in the Jerusalem Gold Marble steam room to cleanse the body and then an invigorating, full body exfoliation using black Moroccan soap. Massages and aromatic facials are also available. Afterwards, retreat to the Sultana Lounge, to recline on velvet beds and silk cushions whilst sipping on tea and nibbling on cake. The Hammam and Gommage with a 30-minute massage is $138. 1495 6th Ave, West Vancouver, 604-733-5151
