Forbes’ Billionaires List Includes 45 Canadians

Forbes just released its annual list of billionaires, and 45 Canadians are included. Media mogul David Thomson is the highest-earning Canadian with an estimated net worth of CAD$43.4 billion. He and his family are ranked 27 on the list. Thomas has three times as much wealth as the next Canadian on the list, e-commerce tycoon Joseph Tsai.

There are 55 fewer billionaires on the list this year compared to a year ago. A record 46 per cent have less money than they did last year. The United States and Brazil are the only countries that have more billionaires than they did in 2018.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos takes the top spot for the second consecutive year with $131 billion. Rounding out the top three are Bill Gates ($96.5 billion) and Warren Buffet ($82.5 billion).

The youngest “self-made” billionaire on the list is reality star Kylie Jenner, 21, who founded a successful makeup line when she was a teenager.
