With more and more people getting tattoos, it’s no surprise that both men and women like those who wear body art. According to a recent survey by the dating app Type, two-thirds of women are attracted to men with tattoos.
Benno Spencer, Type’s CEO, noted, “We’ve been surprised just how strong the trends are when it comes to tattoos. So many of our users are looking for someone with a bit of body art – it’s clearly a turn on for both men and women.”
Specifically, 64 percent of those surveyed said they preferred to date men who had body art. According to the group STAPAW (Support Tattoos and Piercings at Work), an estimated 38 percent of Canadian adults have tattoos.
Still, while many women like men with ink, they can be picky when it comes to the designs and placement on their bodies. A thread on Reddit explains why women do and don’t like tattooed guys:
They Have to Be Good Quality
“Even if the tattoos are each individually decent, I still don’t like more than 3-4 unrelated and obviously unplanned tattoos. Like, a theme or a sleeve makes it ok. But if you’ve got random splotches on your back, arm, leg, chest, etc…. starts to look messy no matter what. On the other hand, a really well-planned and unique collection is a major plus.”
“Good ones. Quality ones. I enjoy seeing talented art on anyone. But if you look like a kid who was attacked with a sticker gun and had a marker fight, I will probably mock you.”
“I’ll like them if they are nicely done, original, quirky, and placed tastefully on the body/compliments them.”
“I know a ton of tatted up people and I only find some of them extra sexy because of their tattoos. For me, the guy has to already be sexy and then the tattoos add to that IF they’re not lame tattoos, otherwise, then the tattoos take away from his sexiness. It’s all very subjective.”
The More the Better
“I even like bad tattoos as long as there’s so many he practically has a bodysuit.”
“Yes, the more the better! I’ve always thought tattoos were super sexy on a guy, ever since I was too young to even have any myself. I might just be attracted to tattoos in general though, because now I have quite a few.”
A Turn Off for Others
“I used to work at a waterpark; I’ve seen so much bad tattooing that it really turned me off from tattoos in general.”
“I don’t find tattoos attractive at all, but I would never turn someone down just because they had one.”
“Honestly, I’ve found myself more attracted to guys without tattoos because if I’m noticing the tattoos before the guy, something’s wrong.”
“I can appreciate them on other men, but not on the men I’m dating.”
