7 Canadian Cities To Get Curbside EV Charging Stations

Canada is increasing the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in seven of its cities. FLO, via its parent company AddEnergie, a Canadian manufacturer of EV charging stations, is launching a $6.7 million project funded by Natural Resources Canada. You may already be familiar with the hundreds of AddEnergie curbside parking charging stations that are common in Montreal.

This action will make it much easier for people who have to park on the street and for those who don’t have access to at-home charging. It may also persuade more consumers to purchase EVs because they will see the installation of these charging stations in areas where they commonly park.

“Expanded urban charging station installation is a key step to support the fast-growing adoption of electric vehicles in Canada,” Louis Tremblay, President and CEO of FLO and AddEnergie, commented. “Our experience enables us to address the operational and logistical complexities of such projects. We look forward to playing a leading role coordinating with municipal stakeholders to execute the installations.”

The seven participating cities are London, Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, Ontario; Edmonton, Alberta; and Vancouver and Surrey, British Columbia.

“This project will create jobs, develop an internationally marketable technology, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, by making it easier for more Canadians to drive electric vehicles,” noted Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources Canada. “These innovative charging stations are emblematic of our government’s commitment to clean technology.  We believe that growing our economy goes hand in hand with protecting our environment.”

The charging stations will be available on city streets and accommodate two EVs simultaneously. One station has already been installed in Vancouver and includes a 30 A current output for a charging capacity of 1.2 kW to 7.2 kW.

FLO will be installing a total of 100 new urban charging station spaces, which are built to withstand harsh weather conditions, corrosion and vandalism. All stations will be installed by March 31, 2019.
