BigDog is a robot developed for Boston Dynamics with funds from DARPA (the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency, the same US agency that brought you beetles controlled by implanted microchips and the Internet). It’s controlled by an on-board computer, can carry 150 kgs, runs at 6.4 km/h, and can traverse difficult terrain. The Marine Corps would like to see it used as a pack mule. We’re not sure why throwing cinderblocks has become necessary, but we suspect that insurgents will steer clear of concrete-throwing robots.
