Vancouver is a musical town with dozens of well-known bands having hailed from the city and many still playing around town at the plethora of music venues. Long & McQuade
When it comes to selection, Long & McQuade is known for variety, boasting everything from top-of-line Gibsons to an impeccable selection of folk guitars. There are over a dozen locations around British Columbia, and stock overlaps but also varies — road trip, or tour, perhaps? Tom Lee Music
Bringing musical instruments to Greater Vancouver and Vancouver Island since 1969, Tom Lee’s operation is now the one of the largest in North America. The main store is at 929 Granville Street and sits on over 50,000 square feet, with a music hall and academy. Probably Vancouver’s largest on-site selection of bass, electric and acoustic guitars.
Anchor Guitar Studio (pictured)
In Railtown Vancouver, this is the go-to shop for handcrafted guitars built in-studio. On offer are Sparrow Guitars, Canadian-built Anchor Guitars and one-offs; parts, repairs and setups available, too. Rufus Guitar Shop
Owned by a husband and wife team, Rufus has a great selection of new and used guitars. On-site repairs, a great selection of vintage guitars and lessons make this store accessible to beginners but also a destination for guitar collectors and experts. 2621 Alma Street, 604-222-1717.
