Man, what’s up with the USA? They don’t eat ketchup chips down there. If there’s a sign that there’s something wrong down there, surely it’s lack of ketchup chips.
Anyway, because of our neighbours lack of good taste in chips, ketchup chips have become an unlikely source of national pride. So, this Canada Day, open up a bag—but we suggest mixing it up a little and trying Srirachup Kettle Chips ($2.89), from Neal Brothers.
The Neal Brothers teamed up with Chuck Hughes, the chef at Garde Manger and Le Bremner, television personality, and a guy who beat Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America. Like the rest of us, it seems he has a taste for sriracha, though it’s a little pared down with ketchup in these chips.
So what’s a srirachup-flavoured chip taste like? Well, start with kettle chips, which are the superior chips, then give ‘em a little kick at the beginning, balance it with ketchup sweetness, then finish it off with a mild burn. Emphasis on mild, there—the whole point of srirachup is that it balances the heat of sriracha with the mildness of ketchup.
