Alberta’s Rainmaker Rodeo

From May 23 – 25, St. Albert will be hosting the 2008 Rainmaker Rodeo. If you can’t spend the whole weekend there, plan to go for at least a day. There is so much going on, a couple hours just won’t cut it. Bring an umbrella, just in case the name holds true.

The largest semi-professional rodeo in Alberta, the Rainmaker has events running on all 3 days, including bull and bronc riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. While waiting for your favorite events to start, head over to the Million Dollar Midway and try out the Twin-Flip, a one-of-a-kind amusement ride found no where else in North America (hint – do this before going to the beer gardens).

Musical entertainment is one of the big draws of the Rainmaker. Though it’s no wonder that Friday has been designated as “Senior’s Night” with Dr. Hook, Trooper and Vanilla Ice taking the stage, Saturday evening holds more promise. Terri Clark, Johnny Reid and Aaron Pritchett will be headlining on May 24, and tickets for either night are available through Ticketmaster (780-451-8000). If you miss out, you can still check out the line-up of talented amateur musicians and singers on the Showcase Stage.

Add monster trucks, the marketplace, freestyle motocross and wild pony races to round out your day. For scheduling information so you don’t miss anything, check out their website or call 1-888-459-1725.
