What’s the most romantic and hassle-free desert you can whip up this Valentine’s day? Two words: chocolate fondue. Now what’s even better than chocolate fondue but just as hassle-free? Six words: chocolate fondue with Unibroue’s Trois Pistoles. The beer adds a bit of spiciness and tartness to an otherwise very sweet dish.
A few notes, though. First, you can do this in the microwave if you’re lazy—just heat the cream and beer, then add the chocolate. But that’s a messy version of a pretty easy thing to make. Second, you don’t have to do fruit. Nuts are also good, as is bacon. Third, if you don’t have a fondue pot (or, for some reason, want to skip the activity portion of this meal), you can cover your fruit in chocolate ahead of time and just serve it that way. Four, you don’t have to use dark chocolate. Milk will do fine.
Ingredients
51⁄2 oz. extra dark 70% chocolate in button form or cut into small pieces
1⁄2 cup Trois Pistoles
2 tbsp. 35% cream
Directions
Place chocolate in a chocolate fondue pot.
Bring beer and cream to a boil in a small saucepan, then pour mixture over chocolate.
Whisk together until smooth.
Place fondue pot over warmer.
Serve with fruit cut into pieces (bananas, strawberries, apples, oranges, etc.).
