Fat Tongue Puts You At Risk of Snoring & Sleep Apnoea

Bad news for you tongue fatties . . . and regular fatties: obesity and fat tongues have been linked to higher instance of sleep apnoea, a serious condition that sees breathing stop and start during sleep.

The study, published in Sleep, had ninety obese subjects with sleep apnoea and thirty-one without, all evaluated for tongue size. Researchers found that those suffering from sleep apnoea had larger tongues on average than the non-sufferers.

To find out if you have a larger than average tongue, a doctor would have to evaluate. That said, it’d be worth checking out, given that sleep apnoea can cause complications related to blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and other disorders also related to obesity.

So, what’s a fat-tongued man to do? You have exactly one option: lose weight. That is all.
