Working In: The importance of Chilling Out

I’ve spent the last three weeks giving you workouts that you can do at home in your $162 gym. Working out is definitely important but you have to remember that it is expending energy. You are creating an energy deficit by working out, and if you are already energy deficient, which 95 percent of us are, you could potentially be doing yourself some damage.

One thing that most people completely neglect is something called Working In. Working In refers to any activity that creates more energy. Examples of these activities include Qi-Gong, Tai Chi and meditation. Some people get scared at the mention of meditation, thinking that the only way to meditate is to go to the mountains and become a yogi, but quieting the mind is very important.

We are living in a society where people are waking up early, staying up late, eating low quality foods, and stressing about money, relationships, and keeping up with the Joneses.

If you don’t feel you are ready to meditate or join a Tai Chi class then an easy way to get into it is by doing something you love. If you love to draw or sing or dance, do more of it. Listen to music without doing anything else. Just sit and listen to the music and try not to think about anything else.

A great way to see the effects of creating energy is to do some form of meditation right before and after you workout in the gym. You will probably be able to lift more, and you will feel energized after the workout instead of drained.
