Remember that Volkswagen commercial that people were saying was racist? Charles Blow of the New York Times called it “like blackface but with different voices” while the Wall Street Journal’s Jimmy Cliff noted that the ad’s entire shtick was centred around “the fact that the accent was coming out of people who were seemingly not supposed to be from Jamaica.”
Well, here’s the thing: Jamaica’s racially diverse, and a real white Jamaican decided to redo Volkswagen’s ad “the way it was meant to be done”.
It’s amazing how much better ads can be when they don’t actually have to sell anything.
