Exercise Equals Better Erections

Problem

You’re getting a bit older or heavier, and now you’re struggling to rise to the occasion.

Solution

All you need is a little exercise, even if you’re old and fat.

Method

A study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine examined the role of exercise in curing erectile dysfunction in a group of men considered ‘high risk’ for erectile dysfunction. What do we mean by that? Well, the members of the group were sixty-two on average. All were overweight or obese. A third had diabetes. A third had a history of chest pain or had previous heart attacks. Three quarters were or had been smokers. In other words: if you were looking for a group of guys with erectile dysfunction, this would be the group.

The participants were surveyed about how many hours per week they did some kind of physical activity, and about their sexual activity.

Results

High levels of physical activity were correlated with high levels of sexual activity and solid erections. Of the 25% of the men in the group with very high levels of physical activity, at least half scored a 70% on a measurement of their sexual activity. The sedentary men only managed a 33%.

The Takeaway

If there’s one reason to keep active, we’d have to say that fighting erectile dysfunction is a good one. Not that you want to have diabetes, be fat, and smoke a lot of cigarettes or anything, but even if that’s the case, remember: exercise is your final hope.
