Assuming you can even afford to have your heart broken again by the Leafs, why do it? This year the AHL Marlies may well deliver some joy – and much cheaper.
Consider: You can grab a pair of Marlie Platinum seats for under $80. Suites start at $599 (tickets, taxes and food included) and The Guys Night Out Package includes a beverage credit and more. ACC scalpers won’t even swear at you for those prices.
The action heats up both on and off the ice, as the team appears in near darkness from an inflatable goalie mask tunnel, and the sexy six-pack Marlies Dance Team rocks the aisles.
Promotional nights include player bobblehead giveaways and a $10 ticket zone. And a free public skate follows all Sunday games. Now that’s cool. In just their third season at Ricoh Coliseum, attendance is up and so are the points. After finishing dead last in their division last year (in true Toronto fashion) the AHL Marlies are suddenly atop of their North Division in the Western Conference.
This Leafs farm team actually has a good chance to go all the way this year, with the likes of Captain Ben Ondrus providing the leadership skills, and David Ling topping the team in overall points. Let’s hope the Marlies’ take the Calder Cup.
Lord knows the city won’t be seeing Stanley any time soon. But even if they do come up dry, at least you can afford to see them try again next year. Visit www.torontomarlies.com for details, or call 416-597-PUCK. Twenty games are broadcast live on The Score or Leafs TV.
