Three Possible New Sports for the 2020 Olympics

All those baseball, squash, and wrestling fans out there rejoice, as these three sports may be added to the program at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Baseball, wrestling, and squash were selected by secret ballot by IOC members from a list of eight that included candidates like karate and wakeboarding. The IOC membership will meet again in September to see if any of the shortlisted sports will get into the 2020 games. However, arguments can be made that all three belong in the Olympics.

Baseball/softball was an Olympic sport until it was removed from the 2012 games in London. It is also one of the most global sports around; the World Baseball Classic is proof of that. As for wrestling, it too was an Olympic sport until it was kicked out  earlier this year. And if badminton is an Olympic sport with all of its controversy, there’s no reason why squash can’t be as well.

It seems the IOC has a lot of decisions to make, including where the 2020 Summer Olympics will be held. The finalist cities are Istanbul, Madrid, and Tokyo.
