Why You Should Beware Women Who Read 50 Shades of Grey

Is your girlfriend reading 50 Shades? Well, we have bad news.

According to a study published in the Journal of Women’s Health, women who read Fifty Shades of Grey are more likely (than people who haven’t read said book) to exhibit signs of eating disorders and have verbally abusive partners. Moreover, women who have read all three books are at increased risk of binge drinking and “having multiple sexual partners”, though we stress that the study used the word “risk”, not us.

Okay, how’d they figure that out? Researchers looked at 650 women ages 18-24. Those who had read the book were 25% more likely to have a partner who yelled or swore at them, 34% more likely to have a partner who demonstrated stalking tendencies, and more than 75% were more likely to have used diet aids or fasted for more than twenty-four hours.

Those who read all three books were 65% more likely to binge drink and 63% more likely to have had five or more partners during their lifetime.

Of course, this study doesn’t say whether the book causes those problems. It could easily be that people who already have those tendencies like the book more than people who don’t. Either way, consider it a warning sign.
