Where to Find Bargain Bouquets

As a guy, buying flowers is a necessary evil you’re bound to come up against when faced with women and romance. Much like car insurance, flowers are your safeguard against unwanted hassles. Since we’re all spending enough on insurance, we thought a list of inexpensive flower shops could help ease the drain on your wallet.

Blue Hydrangea Floral Boutique
Located in the 1200 block of Inglewood, head here on Fridays when fresh cut flowers are half price. 1216B 9th Ave SE, (403) 266-2583

The jackpot for inexpensive roses ($30/dozen), with delivery anywhere in the city for $10. We also like their huge daisy bouquets ($30), a non-traditional twist on roses by the dozen.

Safeways and Superstores
Surprisingly better-than-nice flowers for cheap. Top pick for Safeway is Glenmore Landing; Professional looking rose/vase combo ($22). Go for the lilies at any Superstore location ($10), or try their mix & match option: any three flowers from the cooler for $10.

Wild About Flowers
Located at the Calgary Farmers Market, they offer good deals weekly. Check the website for hours of operation.
4421 Quesnay Wood Dr. SW, (403) 244-4548

Wildflowers at Kensington
Good for bouquets of mini Gerber daisies ($3 a stem) or little packets of orchids (3 stems with greens for $10). Hey, less is more right?
3, 338 10 Street NW, (403) 270-7255

Words to the Wise: Not a flower shop, but two important flower-related tips:

1) Ditch any cheesy wrap on flowers from grocery stores and replace with tissue paper from the card aisle.

2) Never buy a girl carnations unless she specifically tells you they’re her favourite.

Why? They both scream, “I was trying to save a buck”, defeating the purpose of this article: romance minus the hassle.
