Vancouver’s Lavan for Men

One of the many benefits of a long weekend, like the one we just had, is a few days off from the chore of shaving. But on that first morning back, you need to go at that facial hair twice as hard to get your usual, workaday result. Even if you follow the latest trend and grow a beard, you’ll still need a few minutes of face time every morning to keep it looking sharp.

That’s why we’re always on the lookout for men’s shaving products that can make your daily stint in front of the mirror more enjoyable. There’s nothing wrong with most drug-store brands, but it’s never a bad idea to expand your horizons past the fluorescent lighting of your local pharmacy.

So we were excited when we stumbled on the new men’s line by Lavan, the Vancouver-based, all-natural bath and beauty store co-founded by former Israeli Navy lieutenant, lawyer and stone-cold fox, Shanie Bar Oz Dabbs. Hand-crafted in small batches in the Holy Land, the product line is completely cruelty- and paraben-free, incorporates plant extracts and minerals from the Dead Sea and comes in recyclable packaging. Best of all, every product can be tried and tested at the Granville Street store’s central, tumbled-stone sink.

As a compliment to the men’s line launch, Lavan will be posting a men’s blog in the coming weeks through its Facebook page that will feature health and wellness tips as well as workout advice from certified personal trainers.

When it comes to the products themselves, our favourites so far are the Shaving Cream ($29/150 ml, pictured) and After Shave Balm ($32/150ml) whose luxurious gel blend of Shae butter, beeswax and glycerin boasts a light, masculine scent that makes our morning routine a little more bearable. And, with sandal season just around the corner (if the weather ever cooperates), the ultra-rich Foot Softener ($20/120 ml), will whip your dry, cracked winter feet into summer shape.
