Sexual Frustration Can Be Bad For Your Heath

In a dry spell? On a break? On strike? Well, whatever euphemism you’re calling your inability to get laid, it might be killing you.

According to a study published in Science, fruit flies who were exposed to female pheromones but didn’t get a chance to have sex had greater stress, changes in how they stored fat, and lived significantly shorter lives. Scientists frequently use fruit flies in when testing out new concepts, because despite having obviously different anatomy, fruit flies have fairly comparable physiology to human physiology—so the next scientists who want to try a sex-withholding experiment on, say, people, have a proof of concept and merely need to scale up.

Of course, you probably shouldn’t wait for that study. Go out and get laid now—and if you’re striking out, try the old “it’s for my health” line.
